The Country Dance Society fills the calendar every year with folk music and folk dance-related events: www.cdss.org. These events take place throughout the United States, put on by local chapters of the CDS.

Florida Winter Weekend Folk Dance Weekend – February 8-11, 2019 at the Clarion Airport Hotel in Orlando. Teachers are Ahmet Luleci and Evren Soytopcu Kiyak (Turkish), Vlasto Petkovski (Macedonian). Info at: www.folkdance.org
Laguna Festival (2018 is their 48th Annual) – The 2018 Festival takes place in Laguna Woods, California March 2-4. Email. The 2018 Festival features Gergana Panova (Bulgarian) and Roberto Bagnoli (Balkan/International).
San Antonio Folk Dance Festival, March 9-18, 2018 (the 60th year) – is held on the beautiful campus of Our Lady of the Lake University. Details, lodging & registration flyer are here. The 2018 festival features Jaap Leegwater (Bulgarian), Cristian Florescu and Sonia Dion (Romanian), and Campbell Miller (Social and American Vintage). It will also honor Nelda Drury for her leadership and contributions to folk dance as she celebrates her 100th birthday.
Call of the Loon Contra Weekend is held at the Tapestry Folk Dance Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota April 12-14, 2019. It’s THE Midwest Contra Dance weekend extravaganza, featuring live bands, guest callers, workshops, Sunday brunch and more! Website: http://tapestryfolkdance.org
Boulder International Folk Dancers Annual Workshop – Held at Sodal Hall @ The Avalon, Boulder, Colorado. The 2018 festival features Alex Marković teaching Serbian and Rom Dances and takes place April 27-29th. www.boulderfolkdancers.org/events-workshops/2018
Lyrids Folk Dance Festival – Held in Burnaby, BC, Canada. Faculty in 2018 are Cristian Florescu and Sonia Dion (Romanian). www.lyridsfolkdancefestival.org.
California’s Statewide Festival – This annual workshop has alternated between northern and southern California since the early 1950s. In 2018, Sacramento is the hosting city and the teachers are Steve Kotansky (Balkan) and Bruce Hamilton (English). May 18-20, 2018. No website at this time, but check www.folkdance.com
Dancing Bears Dance Camp – Information about the Dancing Bears (Contra) Dance Camp in Wasilla, Alaska the end of May (usually Memorial Day Weekend) can be found at www.thedancingbears.org/. The 2017 Camp was May 26-29. 2018 information not yet available.
Ontario Folk Dance Camp – Takes place at the University of Waterloo in the heart of Mennonite country west of Toronto. The 2018 (the 60th) will be May 18-20, 2018. No details about teachers available at this time. Check their website.
Cerritos Festival – The Cerritos Folk Dancers host their 9th annual Cerritos Festival on June 16, 2018, featuring international folk dances with the theme of “East Meets West.” Cerritos Senior Center, 12340 South Street, Cerritos, Califormia Info: http://socalfolkdance.com/calendarimages/flyer_180616_cerritos.jpg.
Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camp – June, July and August. Information about the Ashokan Fiddle and Dance camp in NY State can be found at www.ashokan.org/camps/
Mendocino Folklore Camp www.mendocinofolklorecamp.com – Each summer since 1962, folk dancers from across the United States and beyond have gathered at the beautiful Mendocino Woodlands to share a unique celebration of ethnic dance, music, and culture. Folklore Camp, pioneered by Madelynne Greene, was the first folk dance camp to use the Woodlands, and today they carry on the tradition and spirit of this ever popular event. Pinewoods Camp – The Folk Arts Center of New England sponsors two sessions held in Plymouth Massachusetts in June — a Cape Breton Music and Dance weekend, and an International Week. Children’s and adult activities are offered along with swimming, boating, and music-making. The Pinewoods Band has been providing live music for all dance parties since 1991. Csipke Camp is in June each year, and on June 23-30, in 2018, in Sauk Valley Resort, Michigan. It features Hungarian folk dance and music camp for adults and children. cspiketabor.org
Scandia Camp Mendocino www.ScandiaCampMendocino.org. Scandia Camp Mendocino, an annual week-long residential camp founded in 1980, presents participants the opportunity to learn in depth about the folk music, dance and cultural traditions of Scandinavia. Camp usually takes place the 2nd or 3rd week of June. Visit the website to join the mailing list. Register as soon as possible as this camp often fills early.
Bay Area Country Dance Society American Dance and Music Week. Held in the Mendocino Woodlands, building and exploring the evolution of folk tradition at the Jones Gulch YMCA Camp in La Honda, California (near San Francisco). The 2018 camp is July 1-6. There are full tracks for musicians and dancers, as well as workshops for callers, dance and song writers. www.bacds.org/camps/amweek2018
Bay Area Country Dance Society Family Week Camp. This is held at Monte Toyon in Aptos, California, among coastal redwoods just inland from the shores of Monterey Bay south of Santa Cruz. The 2018 camp is July 1-7. days full of dancing, music, crafts, games, storytelling, and too much fun. www.bacds.org/familyweek.
Balkan Music & Dance Camps – The EEFC [Eastern European Folklife Center] runs two annual Balkan Music & Dance camps, West Coast in Mendocino, CA in late July and East Coast at Rock Hills, NY in early August
Kentucky Dance Institute (KDI) – Established in 1953, the week-long folk dance camp welcomes dancers and families of all ages. It takes place in Murray, Kentucky. No information available regarding staff. They have a Facebook page.
Middle Eastern Camp will be held July 7-14, 2018 in the Mendocino Woodlands north of San Francisco, CA. The focus is Middle Eastern folk dance classes, belly dance classes instruction on Middle Eastern classical and folk instruments. http://www.middleeastcamp.com/Mendocino.html
Nordic Fiddles and Feet www.nordicfiddlesandfeet.org – This week-long Swedish and Norwegian Music and Dance is June 24-July 1, 2018, and held at Camp Ogontz, near Littleton, New Hampshire.
Stockton Folk Dance Camp – The Grandfather of all Camps, certainly the oldest. Information about Stockton Folk Dance Camp held in Stockton, CA, in late July/early August can be found at www.folkdancecamp.org. 2017 was the 70th Camp. Six to eight teachers, two consecutive weeks – attend one week or both.
Lark Camp (Full name is “Lark In the Morning”) is July 27-August 4, 2018. Held in Mendocino Woodlands north of San Francisco, CA. Described as “a venue to allow traditional musicians and dancers to get together and share their music & dance …without being in a rigid school structure.” http://www.larkcamp.com/
Ti Ti Tábor Hungarian Folk Camp – This week-long camp is held at the All Saints Center, Raft Island, WA. July 29-August 5, 2018. The camp offers programs in Hungarian music, dance, singing, and children’s folk arts. More information on Ti Ti Tábor can be found at http://www.tititabor.org.
Mainewoods Dance Camp – Information about the Mainewoods Dance Camp held in Fryeburg, Maine August-September can be found at www.mainewoodsdancecamp.org/ The 2018 camp will feature 2 one-week camps, usually the last two weeks of August. Dates for 2018 are August 12-18 and August 19-25. Check their website for updates and details about teachers.
New Mexico August Global Dance Camp – An annual festival in August at the spectacular Montezuma castle in Las Vegas, New Mexico sponsored by SWIFDI (Southwest International Folk Dance Institute). http://www.swifdi.org/. Children’s program offered. The 35rd August Camp will take place August 2-5, 2018. Teachers for 2018 are Roo Lester and Larry Harding (Scandinavian) and Cristian Florescu and Sonia Dion (Romanian).
World Village Music & Dance Camp www.dancingplanetproductions.com – This camp takes place at Timber Ridge Camp in High View, West Virginia over Labor Day weekend (Aug. 31-Sept. 3 in 2018). The international dance parties feature both your requests to recorded music and Balkan and Scandinavian dances to live music. Labor Day Weekend at Pinewoods in Plymouth, Massachusetts is co-sponsored but the Folk Arts Center of New England and the Country Dance Society, Boston Center. Enon Valley Folk Dance Camp – Held in September every year at SNPJ Recreation Center in western Pennsylvania about an hour from Pittsburgh. The 2018 camp will be September 14-16 and will have Mihai David teaching Romanian dances and Erica Goldman teaching Israeli dances. World Camp – Founded in 1996 by co-directors Ahmet Luleci and Joe Graziosi this annual camp continues each year in September. Located near the town of Rock Hill, in the Catskill Mountains (90 miles NW of New York City. Bunkhouse-style cabins with a lake, swimming pool and attractive common buildings. Fontana Clogging Jamboree – Takes place at Fontana Village, North Carolina, in September of each year. Information about the Fontana Clogging Jamboree can be found at www.fontanaworkshop.com/ 2017 dates were September 21-22, 2018.
Pourparler – This unique gathering of dance educators takes place at different locations around the U.S. each year and allows these educators to share and teach and commune with each other. These conferences are a function of the National Folk Organization and are typically held in the fall (September/November). The 2018 conference will be held November 1-4, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. English Country Dance Weekend is held at the Tapestry Folk Dance Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota October 10-21, 2018. 2018 is the first year at Tapestry but the weekend has been around for many years. Website: http://tapestryfolkdance.org
